1957 Tweedsmuir Histories were perhaps the first "organized", although amateur approach to recording local history. The idea was articulated by Susan Buchan, Baroness Tweedsmuir, who was the wife of John Buchan, Baron Tweedsmuir, and Governor General of Canada in 1935-1940.
1890-1960 This collection was donated to the Richmond Hill Public Library by the Hall family, long time residents of Richmond Hill. It consists mostly of family photographs, but also includes photographic postcards, tintypes, and certificate of confirmation.
1840-1880 Amos Wright (1809-1881) was elected as the first reeve of Markham Township in 1850. Founded in 1914. The Society officially changed its name from the Richmond Hill Horticultural Society to the Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society effective November 17, 1999.
