Alex J. Hume

A. J. Hume, for many years clerk of Richmond Hill, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, March 11, 1858, coming to Canada with his parents in 1872, settling near Ingersoll, Ont. Mr. Hume learned the tailoring trade and came to Richmond Hill in 1879, starting his own tailoring business here in 1890.

Following the retirement of Mr. Teefy in 1905, Mr. Hume was appointed Clerk and Treasurer of the municipality, which position he held until he retire. He died in 1942.

Mr. Hume was an excellent musician, teaching both instrumental and vocal. He was the leader of the Richmond Hill Band, a very fine organization in its day. He was married to Miss Electa Hewison first, and after her death to Miss Mary Trench.
